"Love is necessary in the classroom. A teacher should realize that if he has love for children he will be creating lasting happy individuals. A degree of love brings security to a child and makes him feel worthwhile. A child realizes he is loved and in turn will respond as a unique individual to that love." ~Tomás Rivera, 1961

SchoolCenter Picture A Message From Your Principal (Winter, 2012)

It is hard to believe that 2012 is here and we are beginning the second semester of the 2011-2012 school year.  I hope that all of you had an enjoyable and safe vacation and holiday season. I hope that all students met their first semester goals and are now ready to get to work for their second semester and STAR testing goals.  The teachers and I will be analyzing the results of the semester one final exams to diagnose areas that need to be addressed as we continue to prepare for the STAR / CST exam in April.  Please take a few moments to read and review the content in this newsletter.  There is important information along with dates of school events, holidays, and non-student days for the months of January, February, and March.  It is our desire to keep you informed of the events and happenings here at Tomas Rivera.  As you know, the first step in a student being successful is attending school to get the instruction from the teacher.  Please partner with us and help us ensure that students are attending school every day and arrive on time (7:50am).  I also ask that you assist us with students completing homework.  Please check the student academic organizer to find out what homework assignment your child has each night.  I am honored to serve you and your children as principal at Tomas Rivera Middle School.  Should you have any questions please give me a call at the school.  Thank you again for your support!

Mr. Workman, Principal
