at Lakeside Middle School!

Course Description

Students enrolled in 8th grade CP (college prep) United States History  will be engaged in a rigorous curriculum that will prepare them for success on the STAR exam in the Spring, as well as prepare them for the rigor expected at the high school level. 

Materials Needed

• 2 Spiral Notebooks (70 to 100 pages each, College Ruled) - do NOT purchase any tape-bound notebooks because they fall apart within one week of use. One notebook will be used each semester and it cannot be used for other subjects.
• Colored Pencils
• Pencils - mechanical pencils are acceptable; make sure to purchase replacement lead
• Eraser
• Ball point pens - blue, black and red; you will also need these colors for your other classes
• Ruler
• Highlighters 

Welcome to AVID at Lakeside Middle School!

Course Description

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college-readiness program whose primary goal is to prepare middle and high school students for enrollment in four-year colleges through increased access to and support in advanced classes. The program places students in college preparatory (CP) classes while providing academic support through a daily elective and and ongoing tutorials.
